silence

It is rare for me to sit in silence these days...
Today I got a moment of you and I realized how much I missed it.
The boys were down for a nap at the same time... how unusual.
I closed my eyes, sat back, and listened to the sounds around me that I don't often stop to hear anymore.
It was the ever so soft tick-tock of our kitchen wall clock that caught my attention first. So often I look at you and never hear you.
The train that runs parallel to one of our main streets is heard in the near distance. I'm reminded how much I love living so close to where I hear the train run by... it's unusually comforting.
A few Crows bickering outside the window. I smiled to myself... this would be the moment Christian would run to get the bb gun.
A gentle hum of an airplane so far and above me. I wonder where it's headed or coming from?
The refrigerator groaning at working so hard to keep our perishables cool. Thank you.
Our neighbor hard at work next door making some final repairs before his move across town to some new condos. We will miss you Jose.
Now... the muffled wail of my 6 week old calling to me... now my 1 year old... silence... it was nice catching up for a moment.
